The total number of washer/dryer machines in an apartment building is less important than the ratio of washer/dryer pairs to the number of units in the complex. Thus, a better question is how many washer and dryer pairs are there per apartment unit?
If there is one washer and dryer and only 4 apartments, well that’s great. But if there is one washer and dryer for 50 apartments, that’s not so good.
Having said that, on average, we estimate a typical apartment with on-site laundry, has about 1 washer/dryer pair per 15 units.
The number of laundry facilities available in an apartment complex will depend on size of the complex and degree of luxury.
The leading association for multi-family laundry suggests that for young working adults to have 1 Washer/Dryer pair per about every 10 to 15 apartment units. The recommended ratio is less so for student housing.
Ask how many washer/dryer pairs are at your community per apartment, and where those machines are located in relation to your future apartment unit.
