There are plenty of sporting options for kids in Northeast Philadelphia to keep you or members of your family occupied. Northeast Philadelphia has likely the highest number of organized sports leagues for children in the entire City of Philadelphia and beyond. Here are some organized sports options in Northeast Philly.

1.  Somerton Youth Organization (SYO)

A private non-profit organization based in the Somerton neighborhood of Northeast Philly, the Somerton Youth Organization (SYO) has been offering sports and athletic programs since 1955. The organization actively encourages the development of sportsmanship, motivation, self-esteem and other skills through sports.

Some of the sports offerings at SYO include in-house soccer, in-house and travel basketball and baseball, in-house baseball, travel football, travel softball. Volunteers from the community operate it.

2.  Parkwood Youth Organization (PYO)

The Parkwood Youth Organization is dedicated to helping players be the best version they can be by instilling passion and creating an environment that encourages the development of players. The idea is to give kids a place to play through a range of organized sports like travel baseball or softball, travel basketball, intramural and travel soccer, intramural baseball, and flag football.

3.  The Lansing Knights Youth Organization

Another Northeast Philly non-profit sporting facility, the Lansing Knights Youth Organization is dedicated to promoting leadership qualities and good citizenship in young adults. They encourage sports activities through organized programs. Some of the sports activities on offer include in-house baseball, in-house basketball, in-house and travel soccer, travel baseball, travel basketball, lacrosse, and softball.

4.  Northeast YMCA

The Northeast YMCAÂ on Knights Road offers a range of children and teen programs including soccer, basketball, floor hockey, T-ball, tennis, boxing and much more. There are several programs on offer to help adults and youth grow and thrive.

5.  The City of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Parks & Recreations

Philadelphia Parks & Recreation is the organization that manages recreation centers, parks and playgrounds in Philadelphia. It hosts and organizes sports leagues and athletic facilities with lots of baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, tennis and football fields on offer. See their website for more information.

6.  Northeast Racquet Club (NERC Sports)

The Northeast Racquet Club (NERC Sports), in Bustleton, which offers a full fitness gym and tennis center, also offers different leagues in sports like lacrosse, soccer and youth hockey for children of different age groups.

7.  Fox-Rok Athletic Association

Around for nearly seven decades, in Fox Chase, the Fox Chase-Rockledge Athletic Association is a non-profit organization with the purpose of offering fun athletic activities to the community’s children. Sports programs offered include baseball, basketball, softball, cheerleading, and flag and tackle football to children between 5 and 18.

8.  Liberty Bell Youth Organization

The Liberty Bell Youth Organization is another Northeast-based sports organization dedicated to encouraging sports and athletics among children and young adults. Some of the sporting options offered include basketball, T-ball, baseball and football.

9.  Philadelphia Soccer Club

Established in 1984, Philadelphia Soccer Club in Northeast Philly is the largest soccer-specific club in the City of Philadelphia. PSC offers male and female players age 3 to 18 in-house, recreation, and travel soccer. The PSC Coppa program offers kids the opportunity to compete at the some of the most elite levels in the county.

10.  Bustleton Bengals

The Bustleton Bengals Youth Club, in the Bustleton neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia, is a non-profit sports club that has been in the community since 1956. The governing body, Board, and coaches are all volunteers. Among the sports offered include baseball, softball, TeeBall, Football, Cheerleading, Soccer, and Basketball.

There is no dearth of sporting facilities or organized children’s sports in the neighborhoods of Northeast Philly, which is why among the reasons why Northeast Philadelphia is such a popular residential choice.
