Pennypack Park was created in 1905 through a City of Philadelphia ordinance to protect Pennypack Creek and surrounding land. Today, the Verree and Klein houses reflect the history of this industrial area where flour, textiles, and lumber were produced. The Verree House was also a site that British troops raided in the Revolutionary War.

The park is home to many historical structures, including the Pennypack Bridge built in 1697 and it is the oldest roadway bridge in continuous use in the nation. Another historic site in the park is the Pennypack Baptist church which was built in 1688. Remnants of the industrial era can still be found in the park if you know what to look for.
